Lead Detailer / Shop Helper Job Description

Job Summary: In this position you will supervise, coordinate, assist with scheduling, delegate, clean interior, exterior fleet vehicles and shop areas while also assisting the Shop Manager / Lead Fleet Mechanic.


  • Prioritize the order in which vehicles are cleaned daily and weekly. Follow up with management and the dispatch office for any updates in prioritizing of vehicles throughout the day.

  • Operates pressure washers, buffers, vacuums, and other equipment to meet company expectations.

  • Use cleaning, protective, and restorative agents to maintain and enhance the appearance of vehicles.

  • Moving and parking vehicles, delivering vehicles to correct locations on the lot or picking up parts / supplies and or fueling vehicles up as needed.

  • Maintain company standards for detailing interior and exterior of each vehicle

  • Keep the shop area neat, clean and organized on a daily basis e.g. bathrooms, break rooms etc.

  • Maintain inventory supplies and ensure Material Safety Data Sheets are updated on a needed basis.

  • Delegate and follow up on job duties assigned to team members to ensure tasks are being completed in a safe, consistent manner with accuracy and efficiency.

  • Assist the Lead Fleet Mechanic with projects as needed

  • Maintain a rotation schedule for specific fleet detailing items and shop cleaning duties

  • Complete each fleet detail work order with efficiency and attention to detail

  • Able to be flexible with job duties

  • Check company assigned email box daily while on shift

  • Ensure breaks are being taken by team members and follow up to ensure time punches are accurate on a weekly basis for all team members within the department.

  • Train, coach new hires and current team members and ensure that all safety procedures are being followed.

  • Monitor and walk the department daily for any safety concerns, if something is broken or needs repair to a supervisor immediately.

  • Ensure team members are following safety procedures and utilizing proper personal protective equipment e.g. gloves, goggles etc.

  • Assist in the scheduling of the department in order to ensure coverage and meet the demands of the business.

  • Executes all terms and conditions as set forth in BAC Transportation’s employee handbook

Minimum Qualifications:

One year supervisory experience

2 years prior detailing experience

High School Diploma or equivalent

Must be 21 have a valid state driver’s license with a good 5 year driving history.

Pass a pre-employment drug test

Must clear a Criminal History Records Check and a Security Threat Assessment in order to be qualified for an Airport Badge.

Supervisory Experience: This position supervises all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management of the employees within that department.

 Physical Demands:

This work requires standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling for long periods of time. It can be stressful when dealing with emergency situations or with routine work punctuated by very busy periods. Must be able to lift and/or move items over 75 lbs. or more. Good eyesight, hearing, manual coordination and dexterity.

Shift Description:

Shift’s vary and often include holidays and weekends. May be exposed to moderate levels of noise from vehicles and tools. Will be exposed to outdoor elements / conditions.
